The tour will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 30 September 2017, at the monument to Ivan Cankar in front of the Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre in Ljubljana. In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest Slovenian architects, Edvard Ravnikar (1907–1993), we will get to know some of his finest works in the centre of Ljubljana. First, we will take a look at Cankarjev dom, two high-rise buildings in its proximity, the Maximarket commercial building, and the nearby residential neighbourhood Ferantov vrt (Ferant Garden). The tour will then take us to the Museum of Modern Art and further to the National Gallery of Slovenia. Just around the corner is the high-rise on Štefanova ulica ‒ another beautiful, yet less known work by Ravnikar. We will pay attention to the specificities of the buildings, the materials that they are made from, and the details that Ravnikar excelled in. Along the way we will draw sketches, just like architects do when they take a tour of a city. The architecture walking tour will be led by architect Špela Kuhar and held in Slovene. This tour is intended for children aged 7 to 12. The event is organised by Center arhitekture Slovenije under the Playful Architecture programme.
