Dr. Gregor Voglar -Dr. Gregorius Carbonarius de Biseneg was an important man for the Slovenian nation. Born in Naklo, he left to study abroad and later, as a doctor of philosophy and medicine by a recommendation of Leopold I, became a personal doctor of the Russian tsar Peter the Great. Leopold I gave him an aristocratic title for his merits. After 26 years of employment within the Russian imperial court, Dr. Voglar returned back to Kranj where he died and was buried 300 years ago. In his will he left 5000 guldens to his native village of Naklo near Kranj, which for that time was a very high amount. This was meant for building and improving a water distribution system of the village. As a doctor, he was well aware of the important meaning of clean water, which would help protect people from the plague that was on a rampage around Europe during the time. Having worked in different places around the world as a doctor, he had his share of experience protecting people from the death of the plague. In memory of the efficiency of plague diminishment, the municipality of Naklo has placed a new well monument on the spot where there previously stood a water-trough with clean running water. The monument has been made out of Hotavlje marble and created by an academic sculptor Stane Kolman. The opening of the interesting documentary exhibition will be on Wednesday, the 4th of October, at 6pm in the hall of Gorenjski Glas in Kranj. The exhibition that has been prepared by Likovno Društvo Naklo, will be lead by Peter Kuhar, an expert on the life of Dr. Voglar. The exhibition will also be shown next year in the municipal museum in Šenčur, as well as some further places, where Dr. Voglar has lived or worked (Slovenia, Austria).
