In the study year 2018/19 Let's get familiar with our city and homeland, an art history study group at Slovenian Third Age University under the mentorship of Olga Paulic, M.A., has devoted its research efforts to Mara Kralj, an outstanding Slovenian painteress (1909-2010). Members of the study group will introduce the audience to Mara Kralj’s paintings, illustrations of fairy tales and her creation of the unforgettable puppets for the performances of Little Sleepy Star, Pinocchio, Booted Cat, etc. In addition, the U3A’s students will describe Mara Kralj’s background provided by her artistic family. All members of her family contributed valuable works to Slovenian cultural heritage. Celebrating Mara Kralj will take place in the framework of the events conducted in the Trnovo city area. Since 1928 Mara Kralj moved into this area after she got married to Tone Kralj, a famous Slovenian painter. She lived in Trnovo, in a nearby nursing home, till she was 101 years of age. Members of the study group have devoted their exploratory learning and other research activities to collecting, editing and analysing memoirs of the painteress.
