Slovenia strives to be a well-known culinary destination and when it comes to this the Ribnica area is no exception. During the year when Slovenia is a European Region of Gastronomy, the Musuem of Ribnica is researching the diversity of local flavours, dishes, and the way they are prepared and served. Cuisine is an important part of customs throughout the calendar year and part of important life milestones, so our research into cuisine-related heritage includes this. You may not know that in Ribnica žlikrofi are eaten at Shrovetide, in Loški Potok women who have given birth are traditionally served kuhelni, and the must-have dishes on festive occasions include the potica cake with various fillings, including barley, whitebeam fruit and pears, which were popular filling choices back in the day.
