We will be making different crepe paper flowers and training participants to make decorative ribbons for Maypole. The erection of the majoš (maypole) in Gančani is part of its rural heritage. The beginnings date back to 1919 when, in honour of a happy return from the First World War, the young men erected a pole to thank the Virgin Mary. In the beginning, it was erected by the same boys for a few years, later it was erected by recruits or ‘lejtniki’ (18-year-olds), and decorated by girls. The ornaments were woven from fresh flowers, including a crown of flowers and a wreath, except for the paper ribbons. Today, the crown is also decorated with crepe paper decorations.
