In October, we will organise a guided tour of Devin Castle. It will not be a traditional guided tour, as the guides will be dressed in traditional costumes, some will play a musical instrument, and others will tell the story of the old Devin Castle up to the present day. The castle is now run by the Thurn und Taxis family. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it became a centre of cultural life - visited by many artists, philosophers and politicians. One of these, after whom the very beautiful panoramic walkway over the cliffs above the sea is named, was the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who stayed here from 1911 to 1912. It was here that he began to write his "Elegy of the Devinas", one of the most important poetic works of the 20th century. The castle and its surroundings provided the inspiration that shaped his poetry. After a guided tour of Devin, the group will move on to the Fishermen's Museum of the Trieste Littoral in Križ, where it will be possible to learn about the history and fishing traditions of the Slovene inhabitants who settled along the coast between Trieste and the estuary of the Timawa River more than a thousand years ago.
