As part of the European Heritage Days, we invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition 1495 Days: Ljubljana During World War II on Thursday, 9 October at 4.30 p.m. With this exhibition, the City Museum of Ljubljana commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Real-life stories of fear, courage and the decisions that shaped the fate of Ljubljana will be presented by Dr Blaž Vurnik, Museum Councillor and Contemporary History Curator at the City Museum of Ljubljana, who created the exhibition. The exhibition offers an in-depth insight into the key events between 1941 and 1945 that left an indelible mark on the city's history. The story of occupied Ljubljana is told through seven exhibition rooms, which present authentic objects, photographs, recordings, and personal stories of citizens from the time of the Italian and German occupations — items donated over decades by individuals ranging from resistance fighters and observers to those whose childhoods were marked by the war years. The exhibition 1495 Days focuses on the everyday lives of residents in a city enclosed by barbed wire, the violence of the occupying forces, and the organised resistance. Through testimonies of those who experienced the war firsthand, it provides a deeper understanding of the events and atmosphere in the city during its most difficult times. The stories of individuals and communities highlight the dilemmas they faced and encourage reflection on the importance of peace, war, and a culture of nonviolence. The exhibition not only offers a window into the past but also raises many questions that remain relevant today, in a world where wars still rage.
