As part of the European Heritage Days, we will organize a school activity day entitled “Bridges of Time: Heritage Once, Today, Tomorrow”. Students from grades 1 to 9 will explore what heritage is, how it has changed over time, and how we understand it today. Special emphasis will be placed on reflecting on the future — what from today may become heritage and what we wish to preserve for future generations. Students will learn about different forms of heritage in Slovenia, such as buildings, customs, ways of life, objects, and contemporary phenomena. They will explore what heritage meant in the past, what we consider heritage today, and what may be regarded as heritage in the future. As a symbol connecting the past, present, and future, we will also include the local wooden bridge over the Krka River, presenting it as an example of heritage within the local environment and as a bridge between generations. The central outcome of the day will be a collaborative installation entitled “Bridge of Time”, created jointly by all students and presented in an exhibition for the school and the wider community. The installation will symbolically connect the past, present, and future while highlighting the importance of heritage as a living part of everyday life. The project encourages creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and awareness that heritage is not only part of the past, but is also continuously being created today. In this way, the project directly addresses the DEKD 2026 theme: “Heritage in the Vortex of Change: Challenges and Opportunities.”
