Event description
Living Heritage Days: Šempeter Necropolis is a two-day cultural event organized within the framework of the European Heritage Days. It brings together archaeology, history, philosophy, art, and public dialogue, with the aim of highlighting the exceptional cultural value of the Roman Necropolis of Šempeter and encouraging reflection on how cultural heritage can continue to inspire contemporary society. The first day will take place in the archaeological park and will be open to the general public. Through guided tours, presentations of the site's history, interpretations of ancient myths, interactive workshops, and discussions among the monuments themselves, visitors will be invited to experience heritage as a living space of encounter, learning, and reflection. Special attention will be given to the stories and symbols depicted on the Roman funerary monuments, which continue to raise timeless questions about love, friendship, courage, memory, death, and the meaning of human life. The second day will be dedicated to a professional and public forum featuring experts from museums, cultural heritage protection institutions, tourism organizations, and related fields. Through lectures, an exhibition, and a round-table discussion, participants will explore the significance of the Šempeter Necropolis, its preservation, interpretation, and role in contemporary society. The event seeks to create a space for cooperation between professionals, local communities, and visitors, while promoting heritage as a living value that connects the past, present, and future. By combining public engagement, educational activities, and professional exchange, Living Heritage Days aim to demonstrate that cultural heritage is not merely a remnant of the past, but an active source of inspiration, identity, and dialogue for the present day.
